In this passionate, inspiring, and moving book, Peter Selg, speaks from a deep knowledge of Anthroposophy and from his extensive experience as a child psychiatrist. He returns to the original impulses behind the first Waldorf school to show their continuing validity and how they still respond to what we need.

From this view, Waldorf education is future-oriented, based on a holistic worldview and cosmology that is humanistic, scientific, and spiritual, and develops through a curriculum and a teacher-student relationship based on love. Its focus is the miracle of the developing human being. Recognizing the equal importance of thinking, feeling, and willing, Waldorf education works through bodily movement and art, as well as through intellect and mind.

Waldorf Education is not a theory but a living reality, and Selg brings this reality to life before us through the biography of the first Waldorf school. As Steiner wrote: “It is our task as teachers and educators to stand in awe of the individuality of the student and offer our help so that it can follow the laws of its own development. Dr. Selg has written many wonderful books. This book I find very useful to recommend to individuals interested in learning more about Waldorf education. Reading Steiner's work can be cumbersome for some, and Selg has researched Steiner's work to distill the essence of Waldorf education in this short manuscript. I highly recommend!

This is a major work, both from the standpoint of the subject and the fact that this is Hiro's first effort. In the introduction, Hiro states, "Millwork is considered to be any product that has been machined at a mill... including windows, doors, and mouldings." He proceeds to explain, in exhaustive detail, elements of unit construction, benefits of various types, and comparative advantages and disadvantages of the different commercial product types. The drawings are clear and well produced, but the limited color photographs are occasionally misplaced. Filled with good ideas and suggestions for thinking about millwork design, this volume includes an excellent glossary. The focus may be beyond the interest level of the average do-it-yourself woodworker. This book is just the thing for homebuyers, homeowners, real estate agents, builders and architects. With this as a guide, you'll look at doors, windows and moulding with a new eye.
The book gives basic information about window frames, sashes, hardware, glazing material, weather stripping and important window measurements. It also discusses such window selection factors as light, ventilation, view, security and safety, architectural appearance, energy efficiency and ease of maintenance. You'll learn about available window units, glazing, measuring energy efficiency, window buying, installation, certification and maintenance.
The book has analogous information for doorways and moulding. It's illustrated by line drawings and all too few photographs.

Excellent primer for millwork planning

I used this book to help me understand millwork basics and the terminology involved. The appendices includes a thorough glossary and abbreviations. I am an ERP implementation specialist who needed to get up to speed on millwork to incorporate a configuration module of the software. It worked! I now have a much better understanding of the world of millwork and the illustrations helped me understand it even better.

Good choice of music for beginnner/intermediate players

I am pleased with the quality of the arrangements in this book. They are simple, yet do not destroy the integrity of the original composition. In other books, the chord structures are not always correct when it is transposed to an easier to play format. I highly recommend this book if you are a beginner to intermediate player and looking for a challenge. This book has enough challenge - (like the Grieg Piano concerto in A minor) to make you feel like you are a pro player.

These diaries landed immediately on the best-seller list after their publication (no prepub galleys were available for review). Historians, however, won't extract much beyond daily reminders of Nixon's bark-off persona, especially his habit of airing all options, from the ludicrous to the realistic. Chief of Staff Haldeman was the PR guy, the scheduler, the enforcer (the lord high executioner, Nixon once said) who, though totally trustworthy as a sounding board for his boss, was a nonsubstantive decision maker. Haldeman dramatically tells, for example, of the August 1971 demolition of the world financial system without exhibiting much understanding of the economic ramifications. At bottom, Haldeman's diary is another thimbleful poured into the huge vat of Nixonia; however, the book's juicy quotations (such as those Nightline ran) boost interest dramatically. Gilbert Taylor

Indispensable

H.R. Haldeman was the crew-cutted former J. Walter Advertising Executive who joined on the Nixon campaign as an Advance Man, a job that if it is done right, no one notices - but if it is done wrong can destroy a candidacy. Haldeman always made sure every detail was attended to and post-election went on to be one of the most in control and feared Chief of Staff's in Presidential history. Haldeman cashed in shortly after Watergate with his own memoir which he later said didn't turn out the way he wanted thanks to publishers, editors and so forth and hardly got the attention of other Watergate memoirs such as 'Blind Ambition' and 'Will'. We didn't hear much from Bob Haldeman after his release from the Federal Lockup in California. After his death however, according to his wishes, his wife released his diaries the fact that they even existed was a bombshell and they were as complete and detailed as one might expect from this meticulous organization man. These memoirs make you the fly on the wall of the Nixon White House and we witness it go from full of hope, thrill and promise to descending deep into the pit of Watergate until the "cancer" that John Dean described as growing on the Presidency consumes Haldeman himself and the diaries come to a close. A true historical artifact not to be missed.

Historians can retire now

This is unbelievable stuff for a historian. On the scene notes, taken immediately (Haldeman wrote this daily).

For a layman, it is revealing how little press this book has received, given the amazing information inside. Bretton Woods is covered to an extent I have not seen elsewhere, even though Haldeman himself doesn't seem to appreciate what was happening.

Watergate is of course covered in excruciating detail.

But what I found most interesting was the mundane day to day activities of Nixon, most of which appeared to be concerned with handling Kissinger. I strongly suspect the book could be extrapolated to most (all?) of his successors.

In summary: an invaluable peek into the Twentieth Century Executive branch.

Captivating Reading

It's amazing the amount of time spent on incidental and personality conflicts when the bigger issues were floating around the Nixon administration.

However, as a businessman, it is refreshing to know that the office of the CEO of the world's greatest power got (and probably still gets bogged down) in small issues, just like an corporation!

A great read. It was hard to put the book down.

Save your money and buy these books

Upon collecting the nine pose files in this set, I've learned that there are another five, soon to be six, volumes available. As soon as these are offered I'll collect them as well. The occasional annoyances in these volumes (some bad cropping, some crammed pose positioning on the page, a dirth of meaningful male poses, some body areas "painted over," poor binding causing pages to loosen) are far out weighed by the marvelous nature of the poses themselves. They contain motion and stretch related poses that no model could sustain for more time than necessary to capture gestures, as well as wide angle distortion in some volumes that the eye would not naturally form. These are invaluable resources in regard to the luxury of time allowed to study the human form (in two dimensions). Volume Four was the first Pose File I found and I do not regret the investment I've made in the set since - they've paid for themselves compared to the cost of models or access to models.

Great for movement drawing

Wonderful book. On almost every page, I find at least three or four poses worthy of drawing.
This volume focuses on what seem to be dance-like movments, mostly done a level perspective.
I do have one complaint, which is the print quality of the pictures is a little grainy. This is of course due to the film speed required to capture clear movements, but the processing probably could have been done a little better.
However, the graininess of the images does not detract from usability of this book. Excellent variety with capable models expressing a wide range of body language. Overall, an excellent reference.

Incredibly useful series of books.

Whenever I find a volume of Pose File, reasonably priced and within my budget, I'll get it. These are incredibly useful for artists and illustrators. Volume 4 is one of the best -- the only possible drawback is the small size of the photos, but these poses should be a starting point, rather than something to copy, anyway, so that's not really a problem.
